As spring break approaches for U.S. college students, resort towns like Daytona Beach and Panama City in the U.S., as well as Cancun in Mexico, are preparing for the influx of young travelers looking to enjoy beach parties and vibrant festivities.
Cancun, one of Mexico’s top spring break spots, saw 10.04 million visitors last year, a 27% increase from 2019, according to Mexican government data. Other popular spring break destinations in Mexico include Playa del Carmen in the southeast and Cabo San Lucas on the Baja California peninsula.
Ahead of the busy travel period, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued an updated advisory, urging caution for American travelers visiting popular spring break locations. The advisory warns that “crime, including violent crime, can occur anywhere in Mexico,” including popular tourist areas such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, especially after dark.
