by Mary

Jordanians traveling abroad for tourism surged by 16.5% in January 2025, with 159,085 people traveling, compared to 136,538 in the same month last year.

Reports from Al Mamlaka TV and the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) show that spending on outbound tourism also saw a sharp rise. In January 2025, Jordanians spent $184.9 million on international travel, marking an increase of 29.4% from $142.9 million in January 2024.

Additionally, preliminary data from the CBJ reveals a significant boost in tourism revenue for January 2025, which climbed 22.8% to $680.5 million, up from $554.2 million during the same period in 2024.

The growth in tourism revenue is largely attributed to a 22.7% increase in income from Jordanian expatriates, a 20.2% rise from non-Jordanian Arabs, and a 30.7% rise from non-Arab visitors.

However, the Kingdom’s overall tourism revenue in 2024 saw a slight decrease of 2.3%, totaling JD7.239 billion, compared to the previous year. This decline was largely due to a 3.9% drop in the number of tourists visiting Jordan.

Despite this, the CBJ’s January data indicates a positive trend in tourism from Jordanian expatriates and non-Jordanian Arabs, with increases of 7.7% and 12% respectively. On the other hand, tourism revenue from European, American, and other nationalities fell by 54%, 35.2%, and 15.3%, respectively.
