South Korea Launches Nationwide Spring Campaign to Boost Domestic Tourism

by Mary

As spring ushers in warmer days across the Korean Peninsula, it’s time to pack away the winter puffer jackets and plan that perfect spring outing. In celebration of the season’s arrival, South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has unveiled a nationwide campaign aimed at revitalizing domestic travel.

In partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization, the Ministry is offering a range of benefits and events designed to inspire locals to rediscover the beauty of their own country. While international tourism has made a remarkable recovery, nearing pre-pandemic levels, domestic travel has faced challenges, including a sluggish economy and a surge in outbound travel.

To counter these trends, the government has set an ambitious goal: to exceed last year’s domestic travel numbers by at least 1 percent during a three-month campaign running from March to May. The success of last year’s “Travel Month” campaign, which saw 235 million domestic trips and 13.54 trillion won ($9.28 billion) in tourist spending, has given the ministry confidence that this year’s target is within reach.
