Vietnam has earned a spot as one of Asia’s top five most sustainability-conscious countries, with 77% of Vietnamese travelers saying sustainability is important in their travel choices for 2025, according to Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey. This percentage is notably higher than the regional average of 68%.
The Philippines ranked first in sustainability-conscious travel, with 86% of respondents emphasizing the importance of sustainability in their travel decisions for 2025. India, Taiwan, and Malaysia followed in the top four spots.
The survey, which included responses from over 6,000 participants across 11 Asian markets, highlights a growing trend toward sustainable tourism in Asia. Travelers are increasingly seeking authentic experiences, off-peak travel, and ways to minimize their environmental impact.
In Vietnam, over one in four travelers prioritize authentic tourism experiences, while 19% aim to support local communities through their travel choices. This indicates a shift toward more purposeful and impactful travel.
Environmental sustainability is also a major consideration. About 22% of Vietnamese travelers choose to visit during off-peak seasons to reduce crowding, and 21% prefer accommodations with sustainability certifications. Additionally, 15% of travelers are packing reusable items like water bottles and shopping bags to cut down on waste. These actions reflect a growing commitment to sustainable travel choices in the region.
